5 Shaving Tips To Prevent Ingrown Facial Hair

Updated: May 13, 2022

Shaving can be a silky smooth experience done correctly.. but an uncultured shaving routine can pull a man down a dirt road of ingrown hairs and possibly even lead to ugly scars.

Ingrown Hairs Are a Huge Turn-Off

Never in a billion years are you going to find someone that has a fetish for ingrown hairs. Why you might ask? Well because they're downright nasty! But nasty or not they are natural and we are all susceptible to the occasional ingrown hair.

To prevent ingrown hairs, it is recommended to avoid shaving and tweezing. You might be thinking, "Well how do I get rid of all this hair then?!" and the answer is to use an electric razor as a prequel to the real shave.

Only after using an electric razor should you use your razor to achieve that clean-shaven look that you're going after.

If you’re in the market for a new razor we highly recommend Barrel & Oak’s Stainless Steel Straight Razor. It comes with 5 blades and we recommend switching blades at least once a week to keep the shave close and clean, preventing the chance of any ingrown hairs.

The Holy Grail of A Clean Shave

1. Wash your face with warm water and your facial cleanser before shaving. If you do not currently have a good cleanser, the Masculin online marketplace is a great place to start. The Marlowe Exfoliating Face Scrub is an excellent choice and a top one on the Masculin Team.

2. Apply a shaving cream or gel to lubricate the area and soften the hair. Try out Duke Cannon’s Superior Grade Shaving Cream, we guarantee it’ll get the job done like never before 🤝🏻 Wait a few minutes before proceeding to the next step to let the product work it's magic.

3. Shave in the direction of hair growth and not against the grain

4. Rinse your blade in warm water after each and every stroke

5. Rinse your skin off with cold water and apply some after-shave. If you do not have after-shave, a moisturizing lotion for the face will do but a good-quality after-shave is definitely an investment worth looking into.
